A MOTHER GOES TO THE BEACH
2023
A Mother Goes to the Beach is a Portuguese drama film written by Noelia Crispin and directed by Pedro Hasrouny. As you’ll find with most of the films for which I have designed credits, this film was made by a group of students from the same course that I attended in Europe, only a later intake.
This film in particular is about a mother and her young son who visit a local beach for the day. They are accompanied by the mother’s sister, who seems to wreak stress on the would-be beautiful summer day by ridiculing her sister’s son while boasting about her own child.
The film is particularly beautiful as a cinematographic piece, but is also commendable with its slow-burn narrative. Considering the film is a muted drama, the best course of action to take with the credits was to simply follow the formula: the usual simple sans-serif font played over static title cards.
Interestingly, this is one of the only films for which I’ve created credits wherein the film’s aspect ratio was strictly comprised of a 4:3 resolution. But this certainly did not hinder any creativity.
