STRAWBERRY SHAKE
2022
Strawberry Shake is an Estonian black-comedy film written by me and directed by Lou-Andréa Fière. In my heart, I believe this film to be the best product I have developed as a screenwriter thus far, and I have been immensely proud of the journey that it took to create it. The film follows a robber as he attempts to escape from a petrol station after a robbery gone wrong, but his plans are thwarted when a heavily pregnant woman arrives and claims that she is giving birth.
Creating this film’s credits didn’t require a lot of concerted effort, but it did require establishing a close collaboration with the film’s incredibly talented music composer, Shehryar Khan. His music plays over the film’s credits, which is an essential part of establishing their pacing. I used a thick sans-serif font for the film, projected rather boldly in static title cards that reflected the film’s bold themes and mood.
The beginning of the film also included the actors in bold red, superimposed on the film’s opening shots. Quite cheekily, the last card of the end credits showcased the film’s title with a neon milkshake logo, all while the lyrics to the music shout, “Shake, Shake, Shake!”
This film was incredibly fun to create. I would make it again in a heartbeat.
